CARY-GROVE HIGH SCHOOL BOOSTER CLUB

2208 THREE OAKS ROAD CARY, IL 60013

ALUMNI NEWS

SEPTEMBER, 2002

Welcome to the FIRST Booster Club newsletter for Cary-Grove Alumni and their parents
The Booster Club is in the process of compiling an all inclusive alumni list for Cary-Grove. The information will be available for reunion chairmen. If you are interested in getting a periodic newsletter and being registered, please send your information to www.carygrove.com , or by calling Rosemary Boona at 847-639-6433, or mail it to the Boosters at the above address. Include your first/last name, maiden name, spouse, home address and phone, e-mail address, and year of graduation. If your parents would like to receive the mailings, please have them send their information and indicate who their children are.

Homecoming and 40th Anniversary Celebration
Have you visited Cary-Grove lately? You are invited to attend an open house the weekend of Homecoming for alumni and their families on Friday, October 4th from 7:30-9 PM. Come take a tour of the school with all the new additions. Have refreshments in the cafeteria and socialize with former classmates. Return on Saturday for the traditional parade in Fox River Grove (9:00 AM) and Cary (10:00 AM?) with the sophomore (11:30) and varsity (2:00) football games following. The first graduating class of 1962 will be having a reunion that weekend!

Booster Fundraising
When you were a Cary-Grove student, did you ever consider where some of the extra-special supplies came from?

During the past years, your parents and those following them have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the students. The more visible donations are the lights in the football stadium (1980’s), re-crowning of the football field, the press box, and the new scoring table for basketball. The annual events sponsored by the Boosters include NHS Pins, Academic Letters, and Meet the Deans Picnic. Funds were dispersed to the marching band for new hats, to the poms for updated shakers, to the drama and music departments for spotlights, instruments and screens. Many clubs at Cary-Grove have also benefited from the Booster donations. The math team received calculators, the speech team ordered new practice scripts, and Snowball sent representatives to a leadership program. The Boosters wouldn’t be able to offer funding for these and many more if it wasn’t for the support of the community.

How can you help?
The third annual Car/Cash Raffle is underway. Only 400 tickets will be sold for $100 each. You can share the expense with family and friends and divide the winnings! The winner’s choice is either a new Pontiac Grand Am or $10,000 in cash. Tickets are available at all home football games, by calling 847-639-6433, or by sending a check to CGHS Boosters at the school and a ticket will be mailed to you. Other winners will receive $100 cash awards. The drawing will be at the last home football game on October 11th during half time.

Craft Fair
The annual craft fair will be held at CGHS upper gym on Saturday, October 19th from 9-4. If you are interested in a booth space, call Mary Jo at 847-516-2097. Come and shop for your holiday gifts! Each crafter donates an item for a door prize. Winners are announced hourly.

Golf Outing
The annual golf outing is usually the last Monday in June at the Cary Country Club. This is a joint fundraiser with the Football Association. The event is open to the first 144 golfers. Why not get a foursome together? Door prizes, auction items, and hole sponsors are needed.

If you are interested in golfing or making a donation, please call Tony Tarosas (also an alumni) at 847-639-1926.

Scholarships
Every April this Booster Club Committee, along with other community organizations, interview students who apply for scholarships. Last year 13 students received $500 each from the Boosters.

Post-Prom
Since 1998, the Boosters have organized a post-prom activity. The first year was an evening at an indoor sports arena in Crystal Lake. Since then, the students have taken a midnight cruise on Lake Michigan aboard the Spirit of Chicago. Motor coach buses are rented for the post-prom students. Last year 88% (474) attended post prom. Those joining the Boosters pay a portion of the expense. Each year the Boosters spend $10,000 to make sure the upperclasses have a safe continuation of prom.
